Adams (Charles Francis) is born in Boston.
August 18, 1807
The son of John Quincy and Louisa Catherine (Johnson) Adams, Charles Francis Adams graduates from Boston Latin School and Harvard College, studies law in the office of Daniel Webster, marries Abigail Brown Brooks in 1829,* and practices law from an office on Court Street. He serves in the Massachusetts legislature (1831, 1835-49), and moves to 57 Mount Vernon Street in 1842. One of the leading opponents of slavery, he is vice presidential candidate for the Free Soil Party (1848), and serves as a Republican U.S. Representative (1859-61) and Minister to Great Britain (1861*-68). He subsequently edits the papers and writes about his grandfather and father, both U.S. presidents. Adams dies in Boston on November 21, 1886.
